I'm glad that you're interested in being informed by facts and not by conjecture.
Sometimes people take a side and stick with it, even in the face of evidence to the contrary.

Let me suggested that getting elected, for a political party, is like breathing for a person.

Similarly, political parties must win elections to achieve their purposes, but their purpose is not to win elections.
When political parties reduce their purpose to the mere winning of elections there is something wrong with the character of the people involved.
